The safety of your children is paramount....
Travelling by car :
Children can be dropped off at school either at the Rewi Street or Alexandra Street (church) entrances.
When dropping off on Rewi Street, please do not park across driveways, in the
school driveway or on the bus stop even to drop off your children.
It is much safer to allow children to get out of vehicles on the curbside as opposed
to the road side of the vehicle.
In the afternoon :
Please park your vehicle eitther on Rewi Street or in the church carpark and walk into the school to collect your child :
* Junior children wait in the junior quad, other children wait on the Room 9 balcony.
Children are not to wait outside the school or in the church carpark.
There are Duty teachers at all exits until most students have left the grounds. Children
that have not been collected will be taken to the office.
Walking :
The road patrol operates both on Alexandra Street and Rewi Street both before and after school. Please encourage your chilldren to cross only at these points.
We are currently investigating re-starting a 'Walking School Bus' again for Term 4.
Travelling by bus :
We are serviced by school buses that operate over most of the country roads and that feed all of the TA Schools.
After school all most bus students board feeder buses to the TA College and then change to their correct bus to go home.
Students are checked onto buses at the end of the day by duty teachers - so please advise the office if you child is not travelling home on a bus on a particular day so that the duty teacher is not looking for them when they have gone home by another means.
Most students are eligible for MOE funded transport (free to you), but there is a cost if your child does not meet the criteria for free transport. Information about bus routes & costs etc is available from the office office@stpatta.co.nz
Safety when getting off buses on countrty roads : The recommendation for children getting off buses on country roads is that they stay where they are until the bus has departed and has travelled at least 2 lamposts before moving away from the bus stop.
Biking, scootering, skateboarding to school :
We recommend that children be at least 10 years old before they use one of these means of transport to come to school on their own as children less than 10 years generally have poor judgement in gauging the speed of other traffic.
